Mobile App Marketing in Egypt & GCC, Built Around Purchases

I’m Ahmed Osama, a media buyer with more than 8 years in performance marketing. I plan and manage mobile app campaigns for ecommerce brands, restaurants and service businesses targeting Egypt and the GCC. The work connects audience and creative testing with purchase tracking, first orders and repeat purchases, so the campaign has a clear commercial objective.

Published app campaign result: after my tracking audit and campaign restructuring for an Egypt restaurant app, cost per in-app purchase fell from EGP1,398.61 to EGP84.92, a 93.9% reduction. See the restaurant app results and campaign reports.

When is this service relevant?

This service is relevant to ecommerce apps, brands selling through both an app and a website, and service businesses with a booking or purchase journey. It is especially useful when campaigns generate installs but few purchases, attribution is unclear, or you need a defined plan before increasing spend.

Market coverage is planned around where your business can serve customers. For Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and other GCC markets, we review language, prices, payment options and fulfilment before choosing audiences and offers.

App install campaigns, purchase campaigns and customer retention

Business goal What we measure What guides the next decision
Acquire and activate users Installs, onboarding completion and cost per activated user Which audiences and messages bring users who progress towards a first order?
Increase purchases or bookings Completed purchases or bookings, purchase value and acquisition cost Which tests produce customers at a cost the order margin can support?
Encourage repeat purchases Returning buyers, repeat orders and purchase frequency within a defined period Which offers and customer journeys support repeat business?

What the app marketing work includes

Measurement and account review

Review available conversion events with your technical team, including registration, basket, purchase, currency and order value. Check event duplication and how website and app reports relate before combining them. Document the data source, reporting dates and attribution settings.

Offer and purchase journey

Check the destination for new and existing users. The advertised product, offer and price should match the app experience. Review onboarding, payment completion and delivery information to identify friction that advertising alone cannot resolve.

Acquisition and creative tests

Build a testing plan for relevant Meta, Google, TikTok or Snapchat campaigns. Choose objectives based on available conversion data and platform capabilities, then document the audience, creative direction and budget decision behind each test.

Reporting and the next decision

Compare campaign spend and attributed value with completed orders and commercial costs where available. Keep app-only, website-only and combined outcomes labelled separately. Recommend the next test using the evidence rather than install volume alone.

Documented Kuwait project: a website and app sales channel

For a Kuwait pet-products business, Ahmed Osama audited tracking across the website and app, addressed measurement issues before launch, and introduced Snapchat campaigns alongside the brand’s existing channels. Campaigns and offers encouraged customers to use the brand’s own app for purchases.

The published Snapchat campaign report recorded 3,944 purchases, US$169,414.68 in attributed purchase value and 9.38 ROAS from US$18,054.80 ad spend.

These are combined website and app campaign results. Explore Ahmed Osama’s Kuwait Snapchat ecommerce case study.

Meta Ads audience testing for a Gulf ecommerce app

In a separate 10-day campaign, Ahmed Osama tested six audiences for a Gulf ecommerce app and website. The report recorded $28,550.14 in purchase value and 7.38 ROAS against $3,868 in spend. In-app purchase value accounted for $26,489.91 of the total.

What should you prepare for an app marketing consultation?

  • Your public app-store and website links, target countries and main products or services.
  • A summary of current advertising spend, completed orders and the conversion events available.
  • The measurement tools in use and any known differences between platform reports and actual orders.
  • The commercial target and a proposed test budget, with platform spend separate from management fees.

Share summaries rather than passwords or customer-level personal data. We can identify what needs reviewing and agree the work required before implementation.

A practical audit before launching app campaigns

Start with a test order, not a larger budget. Follow the journey from the advert destination to registration, product selection, payment and order confirmation. Compare what the app records with the order in your business system before using purchase value to make spending decisions.

  1. Check the destination: a new user and an existing customer should both be able to reach the advertised product or offer. Test the language, currency and offer expiry for each target country.
  2. Check the purchase: confirm that one completed order produces the intended purchase record, with the right value and currency. Investigate duplicates and distinguish cancelled or refunded orders in business reporting.
  3. Keep acquisition and retention separate: identify whether a test is designed to bring new customers or encourage existing users to buy again.
  4. Agree the decision: define the reporting period and the action that would justify continuing, changing or stopping a test. Allow for the normal purchase cycle.

How to assess an app advert before you spend

A strong app advert explains who the offer is for, the useful outcome and the next step. Review Arabic and English messages separately with the actual app screen beside them. A fluent message should fit how customers speak in the target market and match what they can buy.

For example, “Download our app” describes an action but gives little reason to take it. A more useful direction is a specific product benefit or an offer that is genuinely available in the app, with its conditions stated clearly. Test that direction against your current message; assess activation and purchases alongside clicks.

For ecommerce apps, use the Arabic break-even ROAS guide to connect advertising targets to margins. For enquiries and bookings, review qualified leads and customer acquisition cost.

App installs are rising but sales are not: what should you review?

Follow the same campaign-acquired group from a new install through onboarding to a first completed app purchase within a defined observation window. Identify where users stop and compare the cost of reaching a buyer, rather than evaluating a lower cost per install on its own.

Hypothetical teaching example, not a client result: a US$1,000 test generates 1,000 new installs. Of these users, 400 complete onboarding and 80 make their first app purchase:

  • Cost per install: US$1, calculated as 1,000 ÷ 1,000.
  • Install-to-first-purchase rate: 8%, calculated as 80 ÷ 1,000.
  • Cost per first-time app buyer: US$12.50, calculated as 1,000 ÷ 80.

Compare tests with equivalent follow-up windows and consistent event definitions, where measurement allows outcomes to be connected to that acquisition group without duplication. A first-time app buyer may already be a website customer; this does not establish a new customer for the brand.

This cost does not establish profitability. Assess it against order margins using the break-even ROAS guide (Arabic). The published Kuwait project reports combined website and app results and is separate from this hypothetical example.

Questions about app marketing

Can you review an app that already has campaigns?

Yes. The review starts with objectives, account structure, tracking and the purchase journey. Existing installs and sales data help identify what to investigate before changing budgets.

Do I need a fixed advertising budget?

There is no universal budget or cost per install that works for every app. The test scope depends on the country, offer, expected customer value and available data. Management fees and ad spend are discussed separately.

How do we set the campaign’s success targets?

We agree the purchase or acquisition objective, test budget and evaluation period before launch. Targets reflect your market, offer, margins and current data; campaign results then guide the next test and budget decision.

Can Meta Ads and AppsFlyer tracking be reviewed together?

Yes. I review event mapping, purchase values, currencies and attribution settings with your technical team, then compare the available reports with completed business orders. Differences can come from reporting methods as well as setup issues; the audit identifies which applies. The Egypt restaurant app case shows my tracking and campaign work in practice.

Can one strategy cover both an ecommerce website and app in the Gulf?

Yes. We plan customer acquisition and repeat-purchase campaigns around how customers use each channel, while keeping website and app purchases identifiable in reporting. For Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and other GCC markets, the plan follows your delivery coverage, language, payment options and offers. See the Gulf Meta Ads test across six audiences for a published website-and-app example.
